With out Winter Youth Leagues well underway, it is time to start thinking about Spring Sports! Our Basketball Leagues are on-linre for team registration and the registration for Itty-Bitty Soccer Clinis is coming soon. In the spring, we offer Basketball Leagues for 4th grade through High School. Registration for teams is going on now through Monday, March 16th. If you aren't currently on a team, please send us youur name and a good contact number. We'll pass this information on to any team that is looking for a player in your grade. Itty Bitty Soccer Clinics are big fun for our 3-5 year olds. Have fun, learn about soccer, practice some skills, laugh, learn and have more fun. These clinics are held on Thursdays or Saturdays in late April and early May. The registration deadline is Wednesday, April 8th. Please check here for our upcoming clinic registration. There has never been a better time to be a YMCA. We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities—and now, more than ever, our kids, families and community need that strength. Consider the following conversation a YMCA staff had recently: A Y mom called on a Friday to say that her 4 and 8 year old girls would not be showing up for child care on Monday, and could she be refunded for the remainder of the month? The YMCA staff asked if there was something about the program that was upsetting, causing for this abrupt withdrawal of her children. “No,” she replied, “My husband was laid off today, so we cannot afford it.” Our YMCA staff responded by offering to consider her payment for the current month good through the entire month to follow. “This would give your husband time to look for a new job.” “When your husband gets a new job and you are able to afford it, we trust that you’ll do what you can. For now, if you want to keep the kids home some days, that’s great, but you can always bring them in to the Y when you need it.” The two girls showed up on Monday, unaware of any major disruption to their family’s life. Three weeks later, the third grader proudly announced that her daddy had a new job. We received a payment for the month of January, along with a thank you from a family who needed a little extra support through a troubling time. This is one example of the many dozens of families who recently have expressed need—temporary, but definite need—and the YMCA has been able to help. Conversations like this one could not happen without you. Thanks to you, the Eugene Family YMCA’s answer to a call for help is an offer to help. Please consider a gift to the Youth Scholarship Fund in 2009. There has never been a better time to give. There has never been a better time to be a YMCA.
Build strong kids, strong families, strong communities...That is our goal. This community if full of amazing people and we are so fortunate that many of them are part of our YMCA. If you have a story about being part of this YMCA and how we have met our goal, please send your story to Susan, We will be highlighting these stories on our website, in our newsletter and in our brochures. So, if you are willing to share your true-life YMCA story, please send it in.
At the Eugene Family YMCA, like the rest of the community is faced with making many of these changes. As we move forward we know we must be smart and conservative. These are just a few of the choices we've made to ensure that we can continue offering the best service, programs and opportunities to our members and community. Y Staff: Currently we have frozen the staff salaries. This will be reviewed in the coming months and adjusted based on the current and forecasted economy. Big Brothers and Big Sisters: As we mentioned in January's newsletter, Big Brother's Big Sister has merged with Committed Partners for Youth. This merge will allow us to make the best use of our dollars and efforts. For more information, please see their website at http://www.committedpartners.org/ Eugene Swim Team has merge with the Eugene City Swim Club: The combining of these two teams created a great swim team program for the atheletes and it allow the reduction of redundant overhead. For more information, please see their website at http://www.eugenecityswimclub.org/ As we move forward, we will continue updating you on changes and opportunities, In the mean time, thank you for your continue support and for the important role you play in our YMCA Community.
