In 1891 James Naismith was given just weeks to come up with an indoor activity, and he did. Hanging peach baskets to the bottom of a second-level running track, Naismith tacked 13 rules to the wall and taught the men, at the International YMCA Training School, his new game. The game's name: Basketball!

At the Eugene Family YMCA, basketball has always played an important role. Whether you want to get in on a pick-up game, have your child learn to play and be on a team, or you want to shoot around with friends, you find your place at the Y.
