Eugene's YMCA welcomes members back under new guidance

The Eugene Family YMCA is preparing to welcome back members to three of its facilities as new guidelines are rolled out.
Though Lane County is still in the extreme risk category for COVID-19, new state guidelines once again are allowing people to access services like the Y at 2055 Patterson St. in Eugene.
"The guidelines are more structured than before and more limited, but we are happy to serve our community six people at a time," said Kim Miller, director of health and wellness at the Y.
The Y hasn't been able to offer indoor, in-person fitness services in 11 weeks. Gov. Kate Brown limited personal services in response to climbing COVID-19 cases during the holiday season.
The aquatics, fitness and tennis facilities will be accessible beginning Feb. 3 for 45-minute reservations. To participate, members:
- Must make a reservation for use of the facility.
- Are limited to 45 minutes of fitness activity inside the Y.
- Will be limited to groups of six or fewer in a given area to maintain 25 feet between members.
- Must maintain 25 feet of physical distancing.
- Must wear face coverings or masks (face shields alone are no longer permitted).
"It takes a village to think through all of (the new guidelines) and make it more than numbers on a page," Miller said. She likened adjusting the equipment, spacing and anticipating members' needs across the three buildings to solving a puzzle.
"We know not just the fitness industry, but our community and our members. We just have to take the guidelines and fit them into what we know our folks need," Miller said.
