Important Tennis and Pickleball Updates

2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for the Y’s tennis and pickleball community. Thank you for your support and for bearing with us as we restructure our schedules, staff and spaces to try to meet our community’s growing needs.

Renaming of the Tennis Center

Since your Y has grown to multiple locations, we needed to create two distinct ‘branches’ of the Eugene Family YMCA with YMCA of the USA. Formally, we are still one entity, known as the “Eugene Family YMCA” with two branches:

  • The “Don Stathos Campus” (our newest Y)
  • The “Patterson Campus” (the location many simply have called the Tennis Center)

On the exterior of the Patterson Campus, we will be placing a new Y logo denoting it as the Y’s Patterson Campus – Tennis & Pickleball Center.

Patterson Campus — Tennis & Pickleball Center Closure

The Y’s Patterson Campus will be closed Jan. 20 through Jan. 24. During this closure, we will:

  • Make repairs to the bathroom ceilings in preparation for a broader update to the bathrooms once supplies arrive
  • Replace all remaining non-functional lights
  • Wash the courts
  • Add 8 additional pickleball courts with tone-on-tone lines to courts 1, 2 and 3, bringing the total number of pickleball courts at the Patterson Campus to 12.

Expanded Hours

Starting Feb. 1, 2025, the Tennis & Pickleball Center hours will be:

  • Monday through Saturday: 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Our expanded tennis court times will be:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 7 to 8:15 a.m.

During these times, all 4 courts will be open for reservations. This expansion will provide for up to an additional 48 opportunities to play tennis at the Patterson Campus.

Our expanded pickleball court times will be:

  • Monday and Wednesday: 9:15 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Our expanded pickleball times will provide for up to an additional 384 opportunities to play pickleball per week at the Patterson Campus.

Note: Please arrive at the starting time or just before for your pickleball play. Unfortunately, the lobby is not large enough to serve as a waiting area and waiting on the sidelines of courts disrupts players.

Better Office Coverage
We’re making some adjustments to make sure you get the best support every time you’re here:

  • Membership staff from the Don Stathos Campus will be stepping in to provide extra support during the new expanded hours.
  • Please introduce yourself when you check-in at the Tennis Center so that they can get to know you.

Add-on Fee for Pickleball Players

All of this pickleball expansion is taking place at the Y’s Patterson Campus, resulting in nearly 75 percent of all Y pickleball programming at that Campus. Therefore, beginning on March. 1, members who play pickleball will need to pay an additional “tennis and pickleball” fee, just as our tennis members have always paid.

Note: We are delaying the start of the add-on fee from Feb. 1 to March 1, due to some technological obstacles.

This fee will apply whether folks are interested in playing pickleball at either of our Campuses. This ‘add-on’ fee will match the current tennis add-on fee’s rate. For different membership types, these monthly fees are as follows:

  • Youth: $17
  • Young Adults: $22
  • Adults: $27
  • Seniors: $27
  • Young Adult Couples: $44
  • Adult Couples: $54
  • Senior Couples: $54
  • 1-Adult Families: $27
  • 2-Adult Families: $54

Financial assistance is available to eliminate barriers to membership.

We have received lots of questions about these changes. Please refer to this FAQs sheet if you are seeking nuanced answers.

A Note From Darryl

I'm eager to share some exciting news about staffing changes at the (new!) Tennis & Pickleball Center—ones that will highlight the important role that our center plays in our community, reflect the growing membership base at the Y, and support our current staff!

First, I am thrilled to announce that I will be moving into a new role that will give me more time to focus on what I love: connecting with members, improving tennis and pickleball play, and coaching coaches!

As the Head Tennis & Pickleball Professional, I'll oversee the programming plans for tennis and pickleball, train coaches and help teach programs, lessons and camps, among other duties.

Second, we are currently hiring a Tennis & Pickleball Center Senior Manager, who will supervise all staff at the Patterson Campus, be responsible for membership concerns and feedback and ensure that a robust schedule and programming plan is in place, among other duties.

Third, we will be hiring new Pickleball Attendants, who will ensure the safety of program participants, educate members about the Y's rules and code of conduct, and set up for, and clean up after, pickleball programs.

If you or someone you know might be qualified and interested in either of these jobs, please click the button below to see our current job postings.
