THEIR FUTURE DEPENDS ON YOUR GENEROSITY
Each year, your YMCA raises money to help us keep our promise to never turn a child away from any Y program due to limited financial resources. This can be critical to a child’s future as academic indicators of success are often set by the third grade. Keeping kids engaged all year round keeps them on track to read at grade level and eventually graduate on time.
Vital to this process is keeping kids involved in activities and learning during the summer months to prevent the Summer Slide – the loss of the previous year’s academic achievements that is especially true for lower-income kids. And, this year we have a very special opportunity.
If we as a community can raise $30,000, a handful of generous donors have agreed to match those dollars up to $30,000. That effectively means we can double your gift. Will you send a kid to camp for a week? Can you increase your gift from last year? This is a great opportunity to not only address the needs of some of our working families but also those that are facing significant hardship, like Lizzy, who just wants to get to feel like a kid this summer, while her parents work to support her younger sister who is fighting leukemia. Children like Lizzy deserve the camp experience, the chance to roast marshmallows over an open fire, to explore the dunes at the coast, to make lifelong friends.
