EUGENE FAMILY YMCA WELCOMES ALEXA SHARPS AS NEW VP OF MISSION ADVANCEMENT

Sharps aims to usher in a bold era of community impact

Eugene, Ore. Monday, Nov. 4 — The Eugene Family YMCA is thrilled to welcome Alexa Sharps as its new Vice President of Mission Advancement.

With an extensive background in philanthropy and a lifelong passion for her hometown community, Sharps steps into this role to lead the Y’s development team and drive a visionary approach to fundraising and community partnership.

Born and raised in Eugene, Sharps has 17 years of philanthropic experience—beginning with her role as Director of the Children’s Miracle Network program at PeaceHealth’s Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation. There, she spearheaded transformative fundraising initiatives that expanded vital pediatric care and forged strong bonds with local organizations and philanthropists. As a Philanthropy Officer for the last 4 years, she continued her efforts to support pioneering healthcare programs—experiences she now brings to the Y to support and elevate the organization’s impact on Eugene.

"Alexa brings not only a wealth of expertise in development but also a deep deication to our community," said YMCA CEO Brian Steffen. "Her passion for creating lasting, positive change is exactly what we need to empower every individual and family to thrive as well as set the path for expanding the Y’s mission, programs and facilities. We couldn’t be more excited to have her leading our mission advancement efforts."

A University of Oregon alumna, Sharps discovered her calling in community-focused philanthropy early in her career. Known for her strategic mindset and innate ability to foster relationships, she is enthusiastic about leading efforts to amplify the Y’s reach and bring impactful programs to the community.

“What excites me most about joining the Y is its unwavering dedication to service and its profound role as a pillar of connection and support for all,” said Sharps. “The Y’s values of collaboration and community-building are incredibly inspiring, and I’m honored to contribute to that legacy through my work in donor relations and outreach.”

Beyond her role at the Y, Alexa is an avid tennis player, an enthusiastic baker, and treasures time with her family. She and her husband Joe, who is from Coos Bay, are proud parents to 13-year-old Charlie. Together, they spend their summers on the Umpqua River, embracing Oregon’s natural beauty.

With Sharps at the helm of Mission Advancement, the Eugene Family YMCA is poised for an exciting new chapter, furthering its commitment to fostering a vibrant, healthy and inclusive community for generations to come.
