Smart Cycling at Your Y

A cycling education is empowering.

June nights in Eugene are beautiful—why not enjoy an active evening outdoors while also earning valuable skills? Smart Cycling aims to offer just that. Come discover the many practical and pleasurable benefits of biking, such as fresh air, exercise, increased confidence (and reduced parking headaches), all while doing your part to lower carbon emissions. Our city has outstanding infrastructure for cyclists, so let's take advantage of it!

This class is made possible by the Y's partnership with Cascadia Mobility, and the curriculum comes directly from The League of American Bicyclists. Though this course, adults will gain skills to help them feel more comfortable on their next bike commute, and to keep themselves and others safe while sharing the road. Smart Cycling equips riders with the skills and confidence to bike safely and legally on both roads and trails. The course covers safety checks, traffic laws, riding techniques, on-bike skills and crash-avoidance maneuvers. Suitable for all experience levels, this course includes a student manual for reference. Successful completion earns participants a League of American Bicyclists "Smart Cycling" certificate.

This is a hybrid class that includes 1 hour of classroom education and 1 hour of practical cycling skills each session.

Bring your own bike if you have one! Free bike and helmet rentals also available from Cascadia Mobility for class participants.

This class is open to Y members and community members. Y members receive a discount on program fees.
